Co-op Membership: no reward on spend, but Member Prices and weekly offers
Facts checked 7 Nov 2026 · How we verify offers
Co-op Membership costs £1, which buys one share in the Co-op and makes you one of its owners. Co-op’s membership page says you get that £1 back on your first shop in store when you select your personalised offer, and its terms say the £1 is repaid if you leave.
Members no longer collect a reward on what they spend. The current terms (last updated 26 July 2026) give Member Prices on selected products when you scan your card, a choice of personalised offers every week, occasional bonus offers, games in the app and, now and then, credit that Co-op adds to your card, plus member prices at Co-op Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services. In 2023 Co-op returned 2p in every £1 spent on own-brand products to a member’s digital wallet (its news release of 19 April 2023); the current terms describe no such reward.
Shopping with your card still earns membership points, but they have no cash value and cannot be cashed in. They count towards your right to vote and towards any dividend, paid only when Co-op has profits to share, and they go back to zero each January. Because there is no reward on spend, we list no Co-op offers here. This page covers Co-operative Group’s membership only, not the independent co-operative societies, where Co-op’s terms say its member benefits and rewards cannot be used.

What Co-op members get
Member Prices: lower prices on selected products in Co-op Food stores, only when you scan your plastic or digital card at the till. The member FAQ says they are available in most of Co-op’s 2,500+ UK stores, with exceptions including the Midcounties, Central England, Southern and Chelmsford Star co-operatives.
Personalised offers: every Monday a new list appears in the Offers tab of the Co-op App or your online account, and you choose two to use in store or online at shop.coop.co.uk. Co-op says it personalises most of them from what you buy with your card. Bonus offers sometimes pop up beside them, to add to your card.
Member prices across Co-op: on selected Co-op Insurance policies, at Co-op Funeralcare (show your physical card, not a temporary one) and at Co-op Legal Services. Quote your membership number to get them.
Presale tickets for gigs and events at Co-op Live in Manchester, chances to win £50 by joining in with Co-op’s monthly events and quizzes, a say in how Co-op is run, and a local cause of your choice that gets a share of Co-op’s Local Community Fund.
How to get the most from Co-op Membership
Scan your card every shop
Member Prices apply only when your card is scanned, and the same scan uses any offers or rewards you have added. It also records your purchases for membership points, which count towards voting and any dividend.
Pick your offers each Monday
Choose your two weekly offers in the Offers tab of the Co-op App, or under Offers when signed in on the website. Once added, an offer cannot be swapped, and it must be used before midnight on Sunday, when a new list arrives.
Forgot your card? Ask before you pay
In a Co-op Food store, ask for a “forgotten card receipt” at the checkout before you pay, then register the shop online within 14 days. Without that receipt, the terms say you cannot claim your points or rewards.
Register a temporary card quickly
A temporary card from a store costs £1 and must be registered to become a full membership. The terms say within a month of first using it, or it is cancelled along with anything earned on it; the member FAQ says within 12 weeks. Register it straight away to be safe.
Quote your number across Co-op
Member prices at Co-op Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services need your membership number, and Funeralcare needs your physical card at the time: points cannot be added there later.
How Co-op offers, credit and dividend vouchers work
Offers and rewards you have added sit in the Wallet tab of the Co-op App, or on the “On your card” page of your online account. They are used automatically when your card is scanned at the till, each one once, and can be used alongside other offers or discounts. All offers have an expiry date.
Member rewards can be spent in Co-op Food stores (including some franchised stores), at Co-op Funeralcare and on some Co-op Legal Services. Digital rewards and offers cannot be spent on home delivery fees, through third-party platforms such as Deliveroo, or at independent co-operatives, NISA stores or other shops that sell Co-op products.
Credit Co-op adds to your card is not shown as a balance. Co-op tells you the amount, where it can be spent and any expiry date when it adds it.
Dividend vouchers, if you choose vouchers over a bank payment, can be spent at Co-op Food, Funeralcare and Legal Services, with change given in cash. Show your membership card, use them before they expire, or post them back to Co-op Member Services before then to have them renewed.
Co-op Membership FAQ
How much is Co-op membership? Is it a monthly payment?
It costs £1, which buys one share in the Co-op. Co-op’s membership page says you get that £1 back on your first shop in store when you select your personalised offer, and the terms say it is repaid if you leave. None of the pages we read mentions any monthly or yearly fee.
Is Co-op membership worth it?
It costs £1, and Co-op says that £1 comes back on your first shop in store when you select your personalised offer. After that, what you gain depends on what you buy: Member Prices on selected products, two personalised offers a week, member prices at Co-op Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services, and Co-op Live presales. There is no reward on spend to collect.
Does Co-op still have rewards or points?
Not a reward on spend. In 2023 Co-op returned 2p in every £1 spent on own-brand products to a member’s digital wallet (news release, 19 April 2023), but the current terms, last updated 26 July 2026, describe no such reward. Purchases still earn membership points, which have no cash value and cannot be cashed in: they count towards voting and any dividend.
Where is my Co-op rewards balance?
Offers and rewards you have added show in the Wallet tab of the Co-op App, or on the “On your card” page of your online account. Credit that Co-op adds to your card is not shown as a balance: the terms say Co-op tells you the amount and where it can be spent when it adds it.
What are Co-op Member Prices?
Lower prices on selected products that you get only by scanning your Co-op Membership card, plastic or digital, at the till. The member FAQ says they are available in most of Co-op’s 2,500+ UK stores, with exceptions including the Midcounties, Central England, Southern and Chelmsford Star co-operatives.
Why are my Co-op Member Prices not working?
Check the store. Co-op’s membership page says Member Prices are not available in independent co-operative societies, some Co-op Live concessions stores or non-Co-op branded stores, and the member FAQ names the Midcounties, Central England, Southern and Chelmsford Star co-operatives as exceptions. On franchise stores Co-op’s pages disagree: the membership page says Member Prices are not available there, while the terms’ Member Prices section is headed “including Franchise stores”. Prices may also vary online.
Can I get Co-op Member Prices on Deliveroo or Just Eat?
The member FAQ says members get Member Prices on Co-op online, Uber and Deliveroo. The pages we read mention no Just Eat. Your personalised offers and rewards are different: the terms say they cannot be used through third-party platforms such as Deliveroo.
Does Co-op pay a dividend?
Only if there are profits available to share. Any dividend is worked out from the membership points you earn in Co-op’s financial year, which ends on the first Saturday in January, and is paid into your bank account or as vouchers; under £2 is held until your next dividend. The pages we read do not say whether one has been paid recently.
Who can vote at the Co-op?
Members aged 16 or over who meet one of Co-op’s five rules: for example, spending at least £100 in Co-op Food, holding a Co-op Insurance policy or buying from Co-op Legal Services in the 12 months before the calculation date, or having bought a Co-op funeral plan.
Can I use my Co-op card in any Co-op?
In most of Co-op’s 2,500+ UK stores. The member FAQ lists exceptions including the Midcounties, Central England, Southern and Chelmsford Star co-operatives and franchise stores, and says East of England Co-op and Midlands Co-op are separate businesses with their own cards. Southern Co-op joined Co-op on 26 July 2026, but for now its members keep their own card, which works only in Southern Co-op stores.
