IHG One Rewards: points at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and InterContinental

Offers checked 28 Oct 2026 · How we verify offers

Open to UK members. Any adult in the UK can join IHG One Rewards free, and a stay paid in pounds earns points on its equivalent in US dollars. IHG states its rates per US dollar, so we quote them in US$.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty programme of IHG Hotels & Resorts: Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, voco and the group’s other brands, 21 in all. There is no fee to join. Holiday Inn points and IHG points are the same thing.

Members collect 10 points per US$1 (or the local currency equivalent) at most IHG hotels, InterContinental included, and 5 per US$1 at the extended-stay brands Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites (Candlewood’s page lists hotels in Germany and Iceland, and the pages we read list none in the UK), when they book direct with IHG: its website, the IHG One Rewards app, IHG Customer Care or the hotel. Bookings through online travel agents such as Expedia and Booking.com earn no points on the room. Elite members get 20% to 100% more, and IHG runs promotions you register for, such as double points.

Points pay for Reward Nights with no blackout dates. The number of points a night costs moves with the room’s cash rate, and IHG’s terms say points have no retail value, so IHG sets no fixed value for a point. Club members’ points expire after 12 months with no activity; Elite members’ points do not expire while they keep their status.

How to collect IHG One Rewards points faster

  1. Book direct with IHG

Points come on stays booked on IHG’s website, in the IHG One Rewards app, through IHG Customer Care or with the hotel. IHG’s terms leave bookings through online travel agents such as Expedia and Booking.com out of the stays that earn points on the room; only other eligible charges earn. A booking made direct with your email address or phone number is linked to your account even if you leave out your member number.

  2. Register for each promotion before you stay

IHG’s promotions count only once you have registered. Under “Up to 3X” (stays 1 October to 31 December 2026), your first stay booked direct earns no bonus; from the second, stays booked direct earn double points, or triple when booked in the IHG One Rewards app. Each night must cost more than US$30, and Reward Nights and Points & Cash stays don’t count.

  3. Join through the new-member offer

New members who join through IHG’s new-member offer page and complete a stay booked direct within 40 days of joining get 3,000 bonus points. The stay must be at least one night at US$30 or more a night, booked with your member number.

  4. Charge meals and drinks to your room

Points come on the room rate and on eligible charges billed to your room, such as food and drink, telephone, laundry and in-room films. Tax, VAT, service charges, gratuities, gift-shop purchases and anything not billed to the room earn nothing.

  5. Work towards Elite status

Elite members earn 20% to 100% bonus points on top of the base rate, from Silver at 10 nights (every tier is in the table above). A US$150 night at 10 points per US$1 earns 1,500 points, 2,100 for a Gold Elite member; under “Up to 3X”, a Club member’s second stay booked on IHG’s website earns 3,000.

How to spend IHG One Rewards points

Reward Nights: a standard room for one night, including government taxes, at IHG hotels, with no blackout dates. You book signed in on IHG’s website, in the app or through IHG Customer Care. The points needed vary by brand, hotel and day, and if you cancel, IHG refunds you in points only.

Points & Cash: use some of your points and buy the rest of the points a Reward Night needs at booking; you need at least 5,000 points. If you cancel, all the points come back, the bought ones included, but the cash part is not refunded.

Reward Night Discount: 15% off Reward Nights at new and renovated hotels. Platinum and Diamond Elite members also get access to promotional discounts on Reward Nights.

Points also buy gift cards and products from IHG’s catalogue and IHG One Rewards Access experiences, can be given to charity, transferred to another member in 1,000-point steps (IHG’s terms charge US$5 per 1,000 points transferred), or converted to airline partners: 10,000 points become 2,000 Avios or 2,000 Virgin Points through IHG’s service centre, taking up to 6 weeks.

Points have no cash value and can’t be exchanged for cash. A Reward Night earns no points on the room, only on other eligible charges.

IHG One Rewards FAQ

Are there any IHG One Rewards bonus points offers right now?

Yes, there are currently 6 live IHG One Rewards offers on this page, each checked on the brand's own site.

How much are IHG points worth?

IHG sets no fixed value: its terms say points have no retail value and no value until they are spent. A Reward Night’s price in points goes up and down with the room’s cash rate and can change from day to day. IHG’s pages give Reward Nights from 5,000 points (its Points & Cash page) and from 10,000 points (its rewards and offers pages). Converted to airline partners, 10,000 IHG points become 2,000 Avios or 2,000 Virgin Points.

How many IHG points do you get per stay?

10 points per US$1 (or the local currency equivalent) at most IHG hotels, and 5 per US$1 at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites, on the room rate and eligible charges billed to your room, not on tax or service charges. A US$100 night earns 1,000 points. Elite members get 20% (Silver), 40% (Gold), 60% (Platinum) or 100% (Diamond) more.

How many IHG points do you need for a free night?

It depends on the hotel and the date: IHG prices Reward Nights in points that go up and down just like cash rates. Its Points & Cash page says Reward Nights start at 5,000 points a night, while its rewards and offers pages say from 10,000 points. With Points & Cash you can use at least 5,000 points and buy the rest.

Do IHG points expire?

Only if your account goes quiet: a Club member’s points expire after 12 months with no points earned or spent, so one earn or redeem transaction every 12 months keeps them. Elite members’ points do not expire while they keep their Elite status.

Are Holiday Inn points the same as IHG points?

Yes. Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, voco and IHG’s other brands all earn and spend IHG One Rewards points from one account.

Can I convert IHG points to Avios?

Yes. IHG’s service centre converts 10,000 IHG One Rewards points to 2,000 Avios, which can take up to 6 weeks to arrive. Or you can set your earning preference to Avios, so stays earn 2 Avios per US$1 (1 per US$1 at Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites) instead of IHG points. Virgin Points work the same way.

Does IHG do double points?

Yes, through promotions you register for. Its “Up to 3X” promotion runs for stays from 1 October to 31 December 2026: from your second stay booked direct, you earn double points, or triple if you book in the IHG One Rewards app. Your first stay earns no bonus, and stays before you register don’t count.

Do you get IHG points if you book through Booking.com or Expedia?

Not on the room. IHG’s terms leave bookings through online travel agents such as Expedia and Booking.com out of the stays that earn points; only other eligible charges billed to your room earn. They don’t count towards the “Up to 3X” promotion either. Book with IHG directly to collect points.

Is IHG One Rewards free to join?

Yes. IHG’s terms say there is no fee to join. You can join on IHG’s website, in the IHG One Rewards app or at an IHG hotel.
