Nectar is the loyalty scheme of Sainsbury’s and its partners, with over 27 million members. You collect points at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Habitat and Tu, at Esso, and with partners from energy suppliers to hotels, using the Nectar app or a plastic card.
A Nectar point is worth 0.5p, so the usual 1 point per £1 is a return of 0.5p in every £1. The bigger rewards are bonus points offers in the Nectar app and the fixed points some partners pay for a booking or a switch. Nectar Prices are member discounts rather than points, so we don’t list them.

Sainsbury's7,000 Nectar points when you buy a new Sainsbury's Pet Insurance policy direct, adding your Nectar card number and the promo code shown on Sainsbury's Money's pet insurance page. The points arrive within 60 days of the policy start, once per Nectar account.

How Nectar bonus points offers work
Many Nectar bonus points come from offers in the Nectar app: extra points on particular products or on a spend at Sainsbury’s and its partners. Load an offer before you shop, and check its end date and terms on the offer page.
Points from an app offer can take up to 28 days after the offer ends to reach your account. Partners also run their own bonus offers, such as extra points on a fuel or a fixed bonus on a booking; the ones we have checked are listed at the top of this page.
How to collect Nectar Card points faster
Load your app offers before you shop
Load bonus points offers in the Nectar app before a big Sainsbury’s shop. Each offer shows its end date and any excluded products on its offer page.
Use the fixed-points partners for big decisions
Some partners pay a fixed number of points for a booking, a switch or a subscription, worth far more than 1 point per £1. They are listed under always-on ways to earn on this page. Compare the deal itself first: points are a bonus, not a reason to pay more.
Link your card before you pay
Online, your Nectar card must be linked before checkout; points are no longer added if you link it afterwards. With other online partners, start from the Nectar website and accept its cookies, or the purchase may not be tracked.
Remember points count on what you pay
Nectar points are worked out on your final total after discounts and vouchers, not the price before them.
Claim points you missed at Sainsbury’s
Forgot your card? Sainsbury’s will add points from up to two receipts if you return to the store within 14 days with the receipt and your card.
How to spend Nectar Card points
At Sainsbury’s, scan the QR code in the Nectar app or swipe your plastic card in store, choose how many points to use, and the value comes off your total. Online, link your Nectar account to Sainsbury’s Groceries Online and choose to use points at checkout. Points are spent in multiples of £2.50, up to £247.50 on one online order.
You can also spend points with partners including Argos, Esso and British Airways. At Nectar Hotels, 2,000 points are worth £10, and you can cover 10% to 100% of a booking with points.

How many Nectar points is £10?
You need 2,000 points to spend £10. At 1 point per £1 that takes £2,000 of spending, which is why bonus points offers and fixed-points partners matter more than the usual rate.
Do Nectar points expire?
Nectar points have no expiry date. But Nectar may close an account on which no points have been collected or spent for 12 months, and points are lost when an account is closed. Collecting or spending at least once a year keeps them.

I forgot my Nectar card. Can I still get the points?
At Sainsbury’s, yes: take up to two receipts and your card back to the store within 14 days. With online partners, points are only added if you shopped through the Nectar website at the time.
